And that if your writing is abs brilliant it will get published even if you don't write the perfect covering letter etc. Thing is, why damage your chances even a tiny bit by not getting the approach right? The simple truth us that the more brilliant your writing, the less you need to do a perfect covering letter, BUT how confident are you that the writing is brilliant and why would you take the risk?? Of course if the material is fab, the agent or editor will love it, but my advice is focused on giving everyone the best chance.
